After a long, hard day at the office, chasing the kids, playing taxi driver and feeding the family, every woman needs an inviting and relaxing space to unwind. If you’re searching for a place to escape the drone of every life, turn your bedroom into a sanctuary with soft bedroom lighting. Here are five easy ways to add ambiance to your bedroom with special lighting.
1. Add a Dimmer Switch
Adding a dimmer to your existing lighting is an easy and inexpensive project. Dimmers run from $15 to $20 on average, but they cannot be used on fluorescent lights. If you have a ceiling fan light, buy a dimmer switch made specifically for a ceiling fan. Make sure you buy a dimmer with the appropriate wattage and understand that some light switches may impact other electric receptacles in the room. A home improvement store lighting specialist will be able to assist you in purchasing the appropriate dimmer for your room.
2. Lamps
If you have a fluorescent light or you’re uncomfortable trying the dimmer switch project on your own, consider purchasing three-way lamps for your bedroom. Just because you have a ceiling light doesn’t mean you have to use it. Placing beautiful lamps at both sides of the bed and smaller lamps on desks and bookshelves will give you the same relaxed lighting as a dimmer switch.
3. Chandeliers
No lighting fixture is more elegant than a chandelier draped with beautiful glass baubles. Even an inexpensive chandelier can be decorated with additional jewelry and baubles to create luxurious centerpiece for your bedroom lighting. Modern chandeliers are also available if that is more your style. Be sure to consider the size of your room before you purchase a chandelier. They tend to look a lot smaller in a large showroom than they will in your home.
4. Flameless candle fixtures
Nothing create ambiance like a candle, and there are now lighting fixtures that incorporate flameless candles into lighting fixtures. These are technically classified as chandeliers, but they offer a different look than traditional chandeliers. Some of these fixtures don’t even require an electric hookup, which makes for easy installation. Most non-electric fixtures that include flameless candles operate on batteries and include a timer switch.
5. Traditional lighting combined with fabric
Another beautiful way to achieve soft bedroom lighting is to drape light-colored fabric in front of traditional electric wall sconces, halogen floor lamps, small lamps without shades, skylights and windows. The fabric will act as a large lamp shade, radiating soft light. You will still need several light sources for this project, but you don’t need to be concerned about what they look like since the fixture itself will be hidden. This idea by itself, or in conjunction with any of the four preceding ideas, will create a very romantic and relaxing atmosphere. Be sure to have at least one light available for reading or working.
